What is the history of the Tam O’Shanter?
Founded in 1922 by Lawrence Frank and Walter Van de Kamp, “The Tam” is Los Angeles’ oldest restaurant operated by the same family in the same original location. It was originally named Montgomery’s Country Inn before being renamed in 1925 after the famous Robert Burns poem.
What is the dress code?
While we celebrate an old-world atmosphere, we do not have a strict formal dress code. Most of our guests choose smart casual or business casual attire to match the upscale yet cozy vibe of our dining rooms.
Do I need a reservation?
Reservations are highly recommended, especially for dinner and weekend visits, as our historic dining rooms fill up quickly. You can book your table directly through our website or by calling (323) 664-0228. The bar at Tam O’Shanter is first come first serve.

What is the “Walt’s Table 31” Experience?
Table 31 was the favorite spot of Walt Disney and his Imagineers. Today, we offer an exclusive “Table 31 Experience” for lunch or dinner that includes a curated menu of Walt’s favorite dishes (like our famous chili), a history lesson from a dedicated ambassador, and a commemorative souvenir. These 2-hour seatings are limited to a maximum of 4 guests.
Are there family tartans on the walls?
Yes! Our interior is decorated with an extensive collection of family tartans, kilts, and coats of arms. Guests with Scottish ancestry are encouraged to look for their own family tartan among our historical decor.
What are your signature dishes?
We are famous for our Roasted Prime Rib served with Yorkshire pudding, mashed potatoes, and gravy. Other guest favorites include our Toad in the Hole (Yorkshire pudding filled with filet of beef and Guinness gravy) and our extensive collection of over 650 whiskies at the Great Wall O’ Scotch.
Is parking available?
Yes, we offer multiple parking options for our guests, including on-site valet and nearby street parking.
Do you host private events?
